An app whose headline is that there is no recovery must not put the only route to recovery behind a purchase. Exporting an encrypted backup is free at any number of items, including after you pass the free ceiling. So is unlocking what you already have.

Encryption is identical in both editions. The direct-download build adds the encrypted disk image mode and the calculator decoy, which the App Store build cannot include because it is sandboxed — not because it is less secure.
